Edited by: Mazzarins Demise on 01/08/2010 19:45:05 The market is too player-driven to ever allow cash shop type stuff we normally see in other games. What new ship type or item will be incorporated? And how will they NOT interfere with the items currently on the market? The in-game market thrives because hundreds and thousands of ships, modules, rigs, and implants are lost on a daily basis. If CCP decides to incorporate a cash shop which sells items that can be lootable, how many people do you think will buy something from it? The same goes if they can't be looted, it'll go against the very design philosophy this game was created to cater towards.
In other games, such as DDO or LOTRO, items are never completely taken out of the game. If I bought a new sword, mount or piece of armor in say LOTRO, there is simply no chance I'll ever be able to lose the item(s) I purchased. How will that work here? How many rage posts will we start seeing when some guy's ship he paid 20 bucks for gets blasted as he was leaving Jita 4-4?
While you might think CCP will make boatloads of money initially, they stand to lose even more in the long run. Nobody wants to pay real money for modules, ships, and other goods when it can all be lost in the blink of an eye. They'll simply leave and move on to a F2P game that's slightly more forgiving, and never purchase a thing from the cash shop again.
Just look at all the rage threads that materialized when CCP decided to make PLEXs lootable. Everyone was coming out of the woodwork to lambaste that idea, claiming CCP is getting free money because an item that had a real-world value attached to it could be destroyed.
Let's also mention that F2P games charge its players for new content as well as being able to take part in existing high-end content. How many people do you think will leave when the previous 13 expansions were completely free to the playerbase, and now magically the 14th and onward now cost money? What will CCP start to charge its players to use? Will I have to start dishing out money to plant a POS? Take part in Sovereignty mechanics while in a 0.0 Alliance? Will I be unable to enter WH space because I didn't send CCP the $5 fee?
Where does one draw the line? This won't happen. _________________________________________ Support the "Seed Primae on the market and ORE LP Stores" proposal! Click here |
